Newbie (and possibly an imposter?)
« on: January 31, 2015, 08:35:57 am »
Hi

The basics: 41, male, living in Edinburgh, dad, husband, tinkerer, vx220.org.uk forum member, employed in a tedious office role for which I have no love but adequately funds life and cars :D

My other car is a VX220 which has had a slight modification or two, (most significantly, installation of a 2.0 TFSi from an Audi S3.  It's had Revo work taking it to roughly 380bhp.)  In a little go-kart weighing around 900kg, its performance is "lively."  :D

I've had my challenges with it (Lotus build practices, lack of a garage/shelter, bespoke parts, huge costs, teething troubles, dumb bad luck etc.)

We also have a 62 plate A6 Avant 177 TDi which is a great family car and my wife drives daily.

The VX isn't a realistic daily driver though, so I needed something that wouldn't bore me senseless, was easy on the pocket and above all, reliable.  After what seemed like an endless search for something that would give me what I was looking for and a load of disappointing test drives, I settled on a 57 plate Golf V TSi.  The idea of compound charge had intrigued me since I'd heard of it.  I bought one at the beginning of Dec with 56k on the clock, Winter Pack and a full main dealer service history.

It's never going to thrill like the VX and was supposed to be the antidote to the VX's "character" so I'm really happy with it so far.

Now, I know that this is the GTi forum but I've not seen a UK site for the Golf MkV that looks like 'my thing' & with the VAG theme running through the current fleet and a 2.0 TFSi lump in the VX, I hoped you guys wouldn't mind me infiltrating :D

Hope this is place is even half as friendly, helpful and fun as the VX forum.

Do I get to stay?
:D

I'm sure you'll get loads of help from members on here, even if you do drive a Vauxhall  :signLOL:

Get some photos up, sounds a right little monster!

Plenty of non mk5 GTi drivers around here, pretty inclusive bunch :-)

I'm interested in the VX too. Always had a soft spot for them and my local VAG place has just been fitting a 1.8T into one.Interesting project.

Welcome :-)

Dave

Thanks gentlemen.

The more I drive around in the Golf, the more I love it.  It's a brilliant all-rounder.  I'm also learning to appreciate its performance.  That little compound charged 1.4 packs decent power right across the rev range.  Starting to wish I'd bought a GTi (the R32 would have been too costly to run)

Mine definitely needs some fresh rubber on the front though as there's a lack of initial bite and outright grip (despite loads of even tread.)

Using Tapatalk, so not sure if these photos I'm trying to upload will embed as I intend.
